This pilot project was focussed around a pedestrian underpass that is a key portal or threshold to the town centre from Alexandra Park. The project was triggered by issues of unsightly garages, poor maintenance, and poor user safety. The whole setting required a major rethink. This transformative project was developed and delivered by the Greenway Executive which at that time (1995) included Hastings Borough Council, Hastings Trust, East Sussex County Council, Network Rail and Castle Ward Forum.
